Light Up a Life: A Special Christmas Tribute to Loved Ones in Basingstoke

As the festive season draws closer, St Michael’s Hospice is inviting local residents to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones at its annual Light Up a Life services on Sunday 6 December 2026.

Everyone is welcome to make a dedication in memory of someone special, whether or not they received care from St. Michael’s Hospice. Each dedication also helps the Hospice continue providing vital care and support to people and families across North Hampshire.

With £15,000 needed every day to provide its services, the generosity of the local community is essential in helping St. Michael’s Hospice be there for those who need its care.

Light up a Life offers a chance to pause amid the busy festive season and reflect on the people who remain an important part of our lives. The Services will include music, readings and moments of reflection, with candles creating a gentle and meaningful tribute to those who are no longer with us.

For sisters Sarah and Rachael, Light up a Life has become a much-loved family Christmas tradition. They have attended with their father and families since 2014, remembering their mother and taking comfort from sharing the occasion with others who have also experienced loss.

“Light up a Life has become such an important part of our family Christmas. It gives us the opportunity to remember Mum and celebrate her life, while spending time together as a family. It is also comforting to be surrounded by others who understand what it is like to experience loss. Being able to support the Hospice at the same time makes the occasion even more meaningful.” Rachael, St. Michael’s Hospice supporter and Light up a Life attendee

This year’s Light up a Life Services will take place at St Joseph’s Church, 171A St Michael’s Road, Basingstoke, RG22 6TY, with two Services available at 3pm and 6.30pm.
