Cowgirls & Kicks, run by mum and daughter Lyn and Gem, will host a Hoedown at Dummer Down Farm near Basingstoke on Saturday 19th June 2027.
Line dancing is having a huge resurgence, and one local mum-and-daughter team are showing that people are never too young, or too old, to pull on their dancing shoes.
Cowgirls & Kicks has grown into a thriving line-dancing community bringing together people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Their youngest dancers are just three years old, while their oldest is 98.
A Welcoming Community
What makes Cowgirls & Kicks special is that it isn’t simply about learning the steps. Classes have become a place for people to meet, make friends, build confidence, exercise and enjoy a shared love of music and dancing.
Parents dance alongside their children, grandparents join younger generations, and complete beginners are welcomed alongside those who have been line dancing for years.
Modern line dancing covers everything from traditional country to current chart music, with a growing number of younger people discovering the hobby through social media and the recent explosion in popularity of country music.
The Hoedown
Now Lyn and Gem are taking things one step further with a huge local celebration of everything country.
On Saturday 19th June 2027, Cowgirls & Kicks will host the Cowgirls & Kicks Hoedown at Dummer Down Farm, near Basingstoke.
The event will bring the atmosphere and community of their classes together on a much bigger scale, with line dancing, live entertainment, stalls and plenty of country fun throughout the event.
It will also give people who have never tried line dancing the opportunity to experience the welcoming community that has made Cowgirls & Kicks so popular.
Open to Everyone
For Lyn and Gem, the inclusive nature of the group is a huge part of what they have created. No dance background, partner or previous experience is needed to join in. People can simply turn up, learn at their own pace and, most importantly, enjoy themselves.
The extraordinary age range within the group, from three to 98, perhaps says it all. Few hobbies can genuinely bring that many generations together on the same dance floor.
The upcoming Hoedown will celebrate not only the growth of line dancing and country music, but also the friendships and community that have developed around it.
With country music continuing to attract new audiences in the UK and line dancing enjoying a new lease of life, Lyn and Gem hope the event will encourage even more local people to give it a try.
The Hoedown takes place on 19th June 2027.
